Peza Unveils 50% Remote Work Guidelines to Support Businesses
Peza is set to release new guidelines allowing 50% remote work without losing tax incentives for companies in its zones, redefining post-pandemic work norms.

Peza Prepares for a WFH Reboot
Remote work enthusiasts, rejoice! The Philippine Economic Zone Authority (Peza) is getting ready to release fresh guidelines this month allowing firms in its zones to maintain up to 50% of their employees working from home without sacrificing those sweet, sweet fiscal incentives. In a world where "remote" is more than just changing the channel from your couch, this move by Peza could redefine how registered firms across the country operate. And if they're not physically in these economic zones? Keep calm and remote on—because outside zoners can work entirely from home.
Peza's director general, Tereso Panga, shared a scoop hinting that these guidelines would not just aid firms but streamline the chaotic world of remote work we've all come to cherish over the lockdown era. The post-pandemic workspace is a whole new ballgame, and Peza seems to be stepping up to the plate with this latest move.
Pandemic Legacy: Remote Work’s New Home
Remote work flexibility was trialed out of necessity during the pandemic—a safety measure that turned into a fan favorite. When restrictions lifted, and returning to businesses within designated zones was required for tax incentives, many viewed it as a plot twist they hadn’t signed up for. However, in September 2022, the Fiscal Incentives Review Board threw us a curveball: firms registered with Peza could move to the Board of Investments (BOI), avoiding the dreaded location-based restrictions while keeping their incentives intact.
More than 440 companies, not wanting to give up their ability to wear pajama pants during meetings, swapped their registration to BOI for continued remote work benefits. All told, over 4,380 companies operate within Peza's 423 economic zones, highlighting just how pivotal these zones are to the nation's economic infrastructure.

Economic Zone Living: Incentives and More
Peza firms don't just stay in economic zones for the coffee (although a tax-free java sounds nice). They benefit from hefty incentives akin to the cake-and-eat-it-too scenario. We're talking about income tax holidays, special corporate tax rates, and a myriad of deductions.
The new guidelines, which align with the CREATE (Corporate Recovery and Tax Incentives for Enterprises) Act, have been crafted with an eye toward maximizing opportunities and reinvigorating the economy—because a strong economy means we can all keep splashing out on those overpriced coffees, whether we're working from home or in the office.
So, whether you're a fan of the bustling office environment or prefer attending Zoom calls with your cat by your side, this Peza ratification might just be your ticket to balancing flexibility while staying fiscally savvy.
